Not bad

This particular song is taken from the Basshunter FL Studio tutorial on Youtube. I know, I've downloaded it myself and gone through the tutorial.

For a first piece, this isn't bad. However, I would suggest playing around with the synths more. Also if you look around you can download extra VST's and plugins like Nexus, Vanguard, V-station and others. This will give you a much wider selection of pre-made synths, and also I would encourage you to play with the parameters to program your own synths.

A little bit of reverb on your synths in the FX rack will help, as they currently seem blocky or chunky. The bassline is alright. The undertone could be a little smoother, and the lead I would suggest trying something like Sytrus to find a good lead. As for your drums you have, they are alright, but a little bit of effects, or searching around for more drum samples will help get a better quality of drum.

Overall, this is a good practice piece. I would recommend taking the ideas in the melody and undertones and try to expand on them before calling it a real remix. I hope this is some help. Feel free to PM me if you would like to talk more. I'm always glad to help.

Wow, many thanks for all that info!

Needs work

The idea is good. Your 'bass' needs to be lowered an octave or more in the piano roll to be effective for bass, at least if this is going to be a DnB track. There weren't quite enough breaks in the drumline either. I recommend some lower nasty bass like the 3XOsc preset Nasty, or maybe some hoover from the 3Xosc or Sytrus, if using FL Studio

I was just messing around, it took about 30 mins in total.
if i was to spent more time, im sure i can pull somthing alot better off.. but ive got a terrible attention span xD.. ill work smthing out :)

Needs work

The overall concept is nice. However, your chord transition at 5 seconds or so is too sharp or abrupt. A little less attack on on the synth and some more release would be a good idea. The chords or notes should blend into each other. The underlying bass could have used a much slower build and could be more subtle in the mix.

So far it's a good idea.

The other problem I have is that the tones are light and airy, then darker, which the baseline confirms but then it switches a less dark tone again. What are you trying to say, or where are you trying to go with the track? What do you wish to convey?

Thanks. I'll use this information to help improve my next song!

Nice!!!!

I love Cascada's voice as well. The vocals fit the track perfectly. Excellent track!

As an internet radio DJ I will be adding this to my playlist.

Pixelsaur responds:

Ooooo awesome, tell me how it goes! Thanks a bunch!

Good, but could be better

What you have here is a great idea. I like the track itself. I think the melody could have used a stronger lead, and much of the sound was somewhat distorted. The synths themselves sound a little boxed, or off-the-shelf, but they work fine. The real problem is with your vocals. She sounds tired. Brightening the pitch could help with this. At times, she seems to veer away from the rythm of the music. An autotuner might help, or re-recording the vocals. Also you might try a pitch bend and compressing the vocals, which can help with the 'tired' sound and such.

Overall though, it's a good start, and a good idea.

thank you for the review.

Awesomesauce!

I like the overall composition of this track. I liked the way you used the standard trance chop for your track, though it does give it a generic feel as you said. Your bass synth and the synth you panned left sounded like 2 standard FL Studio synths, but that's not a bad thing. The bass was distorted on my DJ studio headphones, but I won't know until I take it home and put it into my studio system for certain. Overall though, it's a nice track. Great beat, excellent use of the mid and high ranges, good undertone and bassline. Keep up the awesomesauce.

Burn7 responds:

Thanks, the bass is distorted regardless of what speakers you use, and NG is currently stopping me from editing the track so I can put a new one up there that fixes the track compression. But thanks for the review!

PS: I didn't use FL at all, I use Acid and Pro-53 :P

Great

Now I'm chair-dancing!

Champius responds:

nice, thanks for reviewing! : )

It makes the baby jesus cry?

Yes, it definately was made in FL Studio. It was also made on-the-fly, and without much experience with the program, or what it's really capable of, or working with any sort of DAW. The guitars need some work, such as adding some reverb and tweaking the settings some, and taking the plucky type strings and turning them down, instead of making them overbearing and painful to listen to.

Maybe it's a first effort, and if that's the case, that's good... but this is a bit of early experimentation that probably doesn't belong on an open music forum, unless one is looking for heavy critique. If this is a piece of work that has taken months, and this is the best that you can come up with... seek help. There are a lot of people here, myself included, that use FL Studio, and can do some seriously sick stuff with it.

Thank you for your thoughts.

Good

Yo, this song is pretty good. Very happy, upbeat, and bouncy. I like the noise lead, that's pretty good. The piano is a nice touch, keeps it very 'kids-ish'. Good job with the pads and the beat, and bass too. I think the lead could use a little bit of reverb.

What program do you use, and what VST was your lead.

XenoxX responds:

ok ok I will break it down

Strings - nexus with the dance orchestral expansion
Piano - hypersonic
bass - Blue v1.01
lead - Z3TA+
and if you want the kick and you have fl studio 8 in the browser go to

misc/Used by demo projects/Eternity add the kick is TE-LK-BD13 its in their

Anyways thanks for the review!
